Description
"My twin sister and I were born on the eve of the Spring Equinox, between the second and third total Lunar Eclipse in a set of four total lunar eclipses. I didn't know this piece would be a Dream Window, nor observing such an event as a Total Lunar Eclipse when I began, rather I simply wanted to use minimal colors to tell a colorful story. So I started with a black wash in matte black. Staring at the blank, black canvas with only brush strokes showing through the paint to guide me, I saw nothing but possibilities I couldn't refine. So, I impulsive picked up a toothbrush and splattered some stars across the darkness. Immediately I knew the moon would join them, and only in painting it did I see the eclipse in progress and painted that too. With some dark swashing and neon undertoning, I had to include a dark cloud and the reflections in otherwise dark waters. The shooting star happened naturally when a splatter of white was too heavy with wetness and began to drip but got caught in one of the brushstrokes ridging from the black. I liked it so I kept it. Some of the stars were painted in neon colors to give the sky some shimmer without glitter and finally the need of dream catchers! Note, though they appear white, it's a trick of the light, and other lighting will reveal the purple and blues of the iridescent and pearl paints used." -M.E.
