Artist's Description
This is "Stage 1" of a coverart commission for the first book in the "ARWEN" series "Hollow Mountain" by U.S. Author A. Sauter (www.amandasauter.us), the "back" background that set the stage for the rest of the painting. I was given "lush mountain range" descriptions but creative freedom, and this is what came out. I think I'm in love with it! So much so, I ended up using this stage as a part of the back-art for the book and now I am offering it to fans of wonderful art and magical books. Enjoy!

Mandy, I love the mood that this piece creates...one of moving from the darkness into the light. That defines a very spiritual place to me. It gives me a feeling of hope when in a very difficult place, like going from a storm into a lull where there is peace.
M E replied:
What a beautiful review, David, thank you! I agree whole heartedly! It wasn't part of any conscious decision, but the fluidity of my process, which is to channel the source. In this case, it was someone else's imagination that created the realm, but in the same, it reflects life as we know it too. I'm delighted you see more of the peace and spiritual light than the storm and darkness because I believe I did intend for the connotation to continuously lead back to hope, peace, and possibilities ripe with opportunities... even if unknown. Thank you for taking your time to comment, much appreciated!

I realize this was the base for the cover art, but WOW... I absolutely LOVE the way this looked as is. There is so much going on here in what on the surface seems a simple background. Your choice of colors for the mountains is idyllic and wild. While the purple and deep black, they way they seem to creep up instills an instinctual fear of the unknown. And hints that all is not well in this beautiful mountainous world... Love this! You did an amazing job!
M E replied:
Blake, those were my thoughts exactly when I finished this stage and why I chose to photograph it and offer it here on Fine Art America. I fell in love with it and I knew the next stages required I paint over most of it. The moods you feel in my color choices and composition is exactly what I was channeling from the Author's descriptions of the magical land and the main character's turbulent journey through it. I'm thrilled that is conveyed to the observer (you) unaware of the meat of the book. I wont lie, I currently have this image as my own desktop screen. :) Thank you for the compliments and for your time in sharing your thoughts with me! Thank you!
